Portage County residents have an opportunity this week to get rid of some of their electronic waste for free.

Portage County Solid Waste is hosting an electronic and small appliance recycling event from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Portage County Transfer Facility, 650 Moore Road in Plover, according to a news release.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of the event.

Who can bring items to recycle?

Only Portage County residents will be able to bring items to recycle at this event. Businesses of any size and residents from other counties will be turned away.

How much does it cost?

This collection will be free for people dropping off items. The event is covered by special funding from the electronic recycler.

Is there a limit for items?

Yes. Residents can bring up to 20 items per vehicle.

What types of items will be accepted?

People can bring cable boxes, cables and cords, cameras and camcorders, cellphones, PDAs, chargers, clocks, coffee makers, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, desktop computer towers, docking stations, DVD players, Blu-ray players, VHS players, external drives, fans, hair dryers, landline phones, laptops, monitors, MP3 players, iPods, microwaves, projectors, radios, satellite dishes and receivers, servers, stereos and speakers, toasters, all types of TVs, UPS and jump starters, vacuum cleaners, video game consoles and controllers.

Are there any items people cannot bring?

Do not bring any ballasts, batteries, bulbs, lamps, capacitors, gas cylinders, ink and toner cartridges, holiday lights, liquids, medical and radioactive waste, medical and lab equipment, refrigerant-containing appliances, smoke detectors, vape pens, or appliances like stoves, dryers and washing machines. While the Transfer Facility normally accepts trash, bulbs, tires and other items, these will not be accepted at this event.
