Thanks all, regarding IMAP:
I actually just read up on the difference between IMAP and POP3 and it seems that all email is online instead of on my computer. First of all, that leaves my email rather vulnerable, but more important, I’d rarely have access and every time I have to search or look at emails again, I’m using precious bandwidth and it might take half an hour to search. Or longer.
It seems that POP3 is the only way to access and search the hundreds of thousands of emails I’ve received and sent over the last almost 30 years.
The ports are 995 and 465 — for many years.
If ATT really blocks these ports for some reason, I don’t understand why they wouldn’t disclose that. Leaves the service rather unusable and in the COUNTLESS years I’ve used many different ISPs and phone data, this has NEVER happened.
It took at least 20 hours of “non” support by ATT and a 120-mile round trip just to get the hotspot and a prepaid data card and then about 15 hours (literally) over several days to get it activated (because I didn’t have an ATT phone # and everything is automated.)
I had hoped that GreenGeeks would assist with troubleshooting, but I realize now I’ll have to move AGAIN because that’s NOT the service I’m looking for. But I’d like a few weeks or months break since I just moved to GreenGeeks and it was nightmarish.
I could just randomly try other hosts, but I’m just so worn out by the CONSTANT internet / software problems and working at least 80 hrs / week. Seemed like there had to be an easier way to figure this out since it takes AT LEAST another 50 hours just to find a suitable host. Just because the email might work at another host (unlikely when it’s ATT blocking the ports) doesn’t mean they fit my other requirements.
I have no idea how I continue to find the will to live
