Ever since SSL was almost made mandatory for google listings/warnings or whatever, I have always recommended people to get SSL, as Let’s Encrypt is free of cost anyways. No.of Antivirus softwares in different platforms (based on settings) are blocking sites with no SSL – they ask user to confirm, if they are ready to risk entering a site with no SSL, just like when they do with an expired SSL & I’m not even talking about add-ons/extensions which redirect users to SSL version of site by choice or block non-https sites.

If your website is used for production & not for experimenting, I would suggest you go ahead & get SSL. Most of the hosts should offer Free SSL these days, have you checked Shared Hosting offers section ?

Thanks for the info. I knew that Chrome was gradually clamping down on non-SSL sites, but I didn’t know about the other stuff you referenced. I had assumed it was moving in that direction though.

We’re a really small business, and we’ve used bluehost for ~15 years. They recently moved us from the legacy shared servers to the new shared servers (Bluerock or whatever they call it). We’ve never had any issue with them, but we almost immediately started getting pinged for using too many resources? Customer service was not helpful at all, and we experienced significant down time. Now I have my doubts about using them long term. So that’s why were using GoDaddy too. Long story.

Anyway, I was hoping to stick with GoDaddy. GoDaddy does say that they support third party SSLs on their cPanel hosting, so I may give it a try.

Someone else mentioned checking out the offers section on this site. I have looked at it, and I’ve read several of the threads here that discuss which web hosts are the best to use. Tbh, I haven’t really found 3 or 4 hosts that stand out. Feel like there’s gotta be something better than what we’re using now.
